Pepino.Hua.Dia de San Juan, Paper Fine Art Print 18 x 22 in

Introduce a bold, cinematic burst of raw drama, deep mystery, and fiery energy to your store with this spectacular Freddy Caston expressionist oil paper print. Painted in 1966, this incredible masterwork highlights a fascinating, high-contrast shift in Caston’s portfolio, moving away from his sun-bleached village alleys into a moody, theatrical scene centered around a towering bonfire.

The composition is completely dominated by an explosion of brilliant, white-hot and molten-orange flames slicing vertically through the center of a dark cavern or courtyard. Caston masterfully uses the intense firelight to create massive, long, ink-black and deep violet shadows that stretch across the ground. Silhouetted figures dance, watch, and gather around the flames, while the warm light catches the clothing of spectators tucked into the moody, purple-toned background. The visible, textured oil brushwork perfectly captures the shifting, raw movement of heat and shadow.
